John T. Capps |
John T., Charter President of the Rotary Club of Morehead City-Noon, North Carolina and has been there forever, at least since Paul. He even served again for their Twenty-fifth Anniversary year but only three members could remember that far back in history.
He is a great exponent of “Southern” friendship and hugging, which in some parts of the world gets him in trouble. Exposes crazy causes, like being the Founder of Bald Headed Men of America and promoting Bald Is Beautiful!
“We take ourselves to seriously,” says John T. “I like to participate and share the international humanitarian programs of Rotary as they are and give us some laughs in order not to weep. I’m not a great Rotarian; I just toil daily in the cornfield of life, to bring a few laughs, a few tears of joy.”
For over 30 years he had the same vocation as Harry Ruggles, Paul’s fifth member in 1905. Since being Charter President, John T. became a “Rotarian” when a RYLA Delegate asked, “Will you teach me how to tie a tie?”and Anand smiled saying, “I knew you would Uncle John, thank you for coming back to our Polio Home in India”.
Having participated in 32 Rotary International Conventions, 10 Polio National Immunization Days numerous Multi-District PETS and Foundation Banquets he has given out thousands of “Free Tickets” to compliment his popular booklets. They are: “7 Habits of Highly In-Effective Rotarians”, “7 Ways to Get A New Member and Increase Your Club Membership”, “GOALS…How To Be A Great Rotarian”, and “How To Survive Your Year As President and Have Fun-Having the Best Year Your Rotary Club Has Ever Had!” next will be a real book!
John T. is married to Jane. She is a Honorary Rotarian and Chairman of The Salvation Army Morehead City Advisory Board. They are “Certified On Call Volunteer Salvation Army Disaster Workers.”
When he grows up, John T. says, “I want to be a train engineer because I think I can, I think I can and YOU can too!”
